Echolalia
Something for Kate (Murmur/Sony)

Something For Kate's Paul Dempsey has a seductive and intense style of vocal delivery that can be something of a double-edged sword. While it elevates the band's best songs - and those songs, such as SFK's first hit, Captain, and the single Monsters from the new album Echolalia, are very good - to stellar heights, it can reduce the lesser material to a languid sameness. The approach to Echolalia is certainly borader and richer, less reliant on guitars and with more percussive surprises than on the band's previous two albums. The songs, too, are brighter and more direct, especially the stunning Three Dimensions. Definitely the trio's best work.
