Something for Kate
SWIRL

Do you feel things are moving too fast?
Julian: Not really, most bands these days get cd's out sooner than we have but they're usually self financed. It was taking us ages to get money together to record a cd and then we found out there was label interest so we didn't bother - we figured we may as well let them spend their money!
Paul: Sometimes... other times not so much. Sometimes I get really bored because nothing's happening, other times I freak out.
Clint:Yep

Does the band still have the same goals as when it started?
Julian: Our goals haven't changed but we never really imagined that things would turn out like this.
Paul: I just wanted to make music and I still am.

When are you recording your cd and what songs are you putting on it?
Julian: We start recording on the 17th January for a couple of days.
Paul: The track listing is a surprise

When are you going on tour?
Julian: Just Sydney at this stage for shows on the 12th, 14th and 15th.

You've got heaps of new equipment, what did you get?
Julian: We didn't have a choice - all our old junk was falling to pieces. When the second wheel fell off my amp I'd had enough. My old gear sounded shit and was too heavy and wouldn't fit in my car.
Paul: I have a new guitar
Julian: His old one broke so we didn't have much choice. Clint's got new drums too - his old ones were shit.

Who does the majority of the song writing?
Julian: Paul!
Paul: Me!

There was a bit of a bidding war over you, who did you choose?
Julian: It wasn't really a bidding war - we never played one company off another. We decided on Murmur because they were the keenest and were there from the start. The other companies seemed a bit half hearted. Murmur's recording budgets and other support weren't as tight either.
Paul: Murmur were simply better for us. They are more able to help us reach our goal. We felt more comfortable with them. They will help us make cd's that we want to make.

What bands are you into?
Julian: Afghan Whigs (always), Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Big Heavy Stuff, Pavement
Paul: Grant Lee Buffalo, REM, Pavement, that dog, 10000 Maniacs
Clint: Pinhead Gunpowder, Mr T Experience, Caustic Soda, 88 Fingers Louie, Archers of Loaf

Why are you in a band and what do you want to get out of it?
Julian: Drink riders - I'd be at the pub watching bands anyway - may as well get free drinks. What do I want to get out of it? Bigger riders
Paul: I'm in a band because I love playing music. I want to get personal satisfaction. I want to look back over my time as a musician and have no regrets. I want to make music that I can listen to.
Clint: To make sweet music for the children

Where do you see yourselves in 3 year's time?
Julian: Space (the final frontier)
Paul: I can barely imagine next week
Clint: In a newsagent living the "good life"
