Yes, this was the concert where the first 500 or so punters reveiced a free Something for Kate live CD recorded by JJJ at last years Fall festival. No, I didn't get one because I'm industry like or something (on the guest list). Yes, it was a mellow affair as the punter, crossed legged on the floor of the Hi-Fi absorbed the stark folksy amiability of Kirsty Stegwazi. No, they didn't take their eyes off her for one minute. Yes, she was captivating. No, Augine March weren't as attention getting, preferring to fuzz around with some creative pop meanderings. No, Augie March aren't as good as they think they are. And more importantly, yes, everyone was anticipating the noisy rumbling of Not From There.
Yes, Not From There actually live up to their hype, creating mid-boggling sounds from a series of triggered and hand crafted sounds to pep up the distorted noise rock title. No, Sich Offnen does not sound as good live and, yes, it did get tiring having to stand for more distortion than was necessary. Please only play a headlining set when you're actually headling.
No, Something for Kate weren't tired after touring and pumping out single after single. They put on a show of staggering clarity and focus even after their overplay Melbourne-wide, opening with a new tune Anchorman segueing into Captain. Yes, everyone who didn't come missed out on a spiritually cleansing set where Paul Dempsey was so eager to come back for an encore that the anticipation was limited to a few seconds. He presented himself, acoustic and solo for Intersection before the band came back out to join him for a rousing finale of The Last Minute. Yes...yes, you missed it.
