Dempsey Tenders Fender For Amnesty
Newcastle Herald, October 18 2002

SOCIALLY conscious Something For Kate frontman Paul Dempsey, pictured left, has put his pride and joy up for auction to raise money for Amnesty International. To coincide with today's Amnesty International Candle Day, Dempsey has handed his beloved Fender jazzmaster, his favourite and most used guitar in the past few years, over to Internet auction site eBay. All proceeds from the sale of the guitar will go straight to the non-profit human rights organisation.

Bids for the guitar soared above the $5000 mark yesterday, but they're expected to get significantly larger before the October 24 deadline. Dempsey is often outspoken about human rights issues, including Candle Day's 2002 focus - human rights abuses against women, such as the case of Nigerian mother Amina Lawal who faces death by stoning for having a baby out of wedlock.

Something For Kate has just released its first DVD, which includes a short film, live sets for Triple J, Channel V and Big Day Out, video clips and heaps of other stuff.
