Something for Kate

The Official Fiction

(Murmur) *****

The Advertiser, August 21 2003

FORGET all those other album-of-the-year contenders - they aren't a patch on this trio's glorious fourth effort. From melodic opener Max Planck to the dreamy Song for a Sleepwalker - even the country-fied Moving Right Along - SFK again proves its acclaim is justified.

In The Official Fiction it has surpassed 2001's superb Echolalia ; while it is instantly recognisable as the work of SFK, with lush instrumentation and Paul Dempsey's throaty vocals and intelligent lyrics, it is so much more. They have progressed enormously in the past few years, but they have maintained an earthy honesty which can be overlooked as bands rise. Don't miss it.
