THE VIBE: Jam-packed, sweaty rock fix

THE CASH: $25

Melbourne rock trio Something For Kate brought their soulful tunes to Townsville on Wednesday night as part of their Non-Fiction national tour. Also on the agenda this week was Cairns, Mackay, Bundaberg and Rockhampton.

About 400 enthusiasts poured into the basement of Escape Nightclub, filling it almost to capacity and making it impossible to move.

The air-conditioning system broke down even before the band appeared, but the searing heat seemed only to encourage the tightly packed crowd to sweat it out happily, all in the name of great Aussie rock.

Something For Kate have been gaining a huge reputation due to their haunting rock sounds and have been nominated for Best Group, Best Album of the Year and Best Rock Album at the upcoming ARIAs.

They return to Queensland for the Big Day Out at the Gold Coast Parklands on January 18 next year.
