Something For Kate / Bluebottle Kiss / Jebediah (The Tote)
Liz Wood

With an EP out on Murmur heralding the name Twitch, Jebediah are certainly turning a few heads, including my own. They are without doubt one of the most exciting new bands to grace us with their presence. Following in the footsteps of such bands as Ammonia and Header, Jebediah's performance was sublime. With songs such as Benedict, Teflon and Invaders, Jebediah took the stage and basically rocked. Their strength as a unit and brilliance at what they do was most evident. It was obvious that they loved every minute of what they were creating, and the audience in turn, received them with great appreciation. If you get the chance to get down and see these guys when they next tour our fair city, it will be well worth the effort. There guys are going to be huge.

Next up were Bluebottle Kiss. Hailing from Sydney with three albums and a fair amount of experience, it is easy to see why they are so good at what they do. They handled the expanding crowd with ease, moving through a set of moody if not slightly self indulgent songs. This aspect reflected in the audience who appeared to lose interest as the set progressed. Perhaps had Bluebottle Kiss paid less attention to themselves and acknowledged the presence of the crowd, they may have had more than a luke-warm response.

Heading the night were the highly successful Melbourne band Something For Kate. Having seen the band more than a few times and been less than impressed I was slightly apprehensive as to what they would deliver. It was obvious judging on the size and appreciation of the audience that Something For Kate are doing something right. With the drummer sporting new dredless hair, this band have definitely found their feet. They flippantly acknowledged the audience and got right down to doing what they do best, belting out songs headed by a very distinctive voice that one can't help but notice. Unfortunately, not unlike Bluebottle Kiss, Something For Kate tended to indulge, drawing out the songs and trying one's attention span.. good but not great.
